Following clues left by his late mother, a boy tricks his father into taking him to Kathmandu, Nepal.   Once there, new clues and adventures lead the boy and dad to a Tibetan monk, who helps them discover their real purpose:  they must journey to the mythical paradise of Shangri-La, battling rogue mercenaries from the Chinese army along the way.
